Documentaries

As part of Cambridge Community Television, Peter Levine & I wanted to bring awareness to activities happening in the Cambridge mosque, Islamic Society of Boston - ISB Cambridge during Ramadan. We filmed one of their biggest, and most unifying events, The Neighbor's Iftar, where Cambridge residents are invited to break fast with Muslims.

Community media centers across the country are facing an existential threat. In addition to a continual decrease of cable subscriptions, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is considering rule changes that could severely diminish funding that community stations rely on to operate. If these changes go through, local stations like Cambridge Community Television (CCTV) will be at serious risk. This documentary shows the gravity of this issue.

This 10 min documentary is aimed at shedding light on how a Muslim American college student is able to attend college while also fulfilling their daily obligations. The documentary isn’t really aimed at lecturing about Islam and its virtues, rather its meant to convey an important narrative from an under-represented perspective and showcase the unseen struggles of what life is like for the typical Muslim college student.

I chose two students to narrate their own stories visually and verbally. Of course, each person is different so I tried to focus on general aspects that hopefully most Muslim college students can relate to.
